health

so, who caught the Barbara Walters special on ABC last night about “Living to 150 years and beyond”?  I think it’s ironic that it aired on April fool’s day so I’m keeping my eyes peeled for the announcement that it was all a hoax… but if it wasn’t?  hmmmmmmm…… interesting stuff.

basically a few researchers believe they have stumbled upon the ability to prolong human life for an indefinite amount of time… it sounds pretty ’science-fiction’ to me, but they swear it’s really possible.  part of the program focused on “growing” replacement organs in a lab with the idea that if one of your parts “break” or is faulty, you can just get a new one… kinda like you would get a new alternator for your car… strange but true.

they also talked about the science of cryogenics, which a lot of people seem to be signing up for!  not cheap at about $75,000 per person, but they claim to be able to preserve you until they find a cure for whatever killed you in the first place… can you say CREEPY?  the crazy part is they store you upside-down in the tank with 3 other people.  so hopefully you get along well with others… oh, and you probably should be aware that they store 5 “brain patients” in the same tank… those spots are reserved for people who only wanted to preserve their head…  (cue horror music!)

so, just a little followup on Tony… while his operation was a success in terms of removing the entire tumor, the biopsy revealed a very aggressive form of cancer that will require intense radiation and chemo… he is in for a difficult recovery period, to say the least.

So, if you have some ‘good vibes’ to spare, please send them his way… he is a brilliant man, a loving father and grandfather and MUCH, MUCH too young to be taken away.  He is a fighter (100% Irish to boot!) and we all know he can beat this… but a little help can never hurt!

today was a scary day… my brotehr’s father-in-law (Tony) was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor last week and underwent surgery this morning.  The crazy part is that this man was the picture of health just one week ago.  He is only 59 and in fantastic shape.

so far, he’s doing okay… he survived the surgery but faces an uncertain and probably dificult recovery period.  Life is certainly not fair.  Okay, this is going to sound a bit like a Hallmark card, but let the people that you care about, know it!  on a regular basis.  you just never know if you have tomorrow.
